A Taste of Fall Weather!

Hello again.  This nice weather we've had for a few days can't be beat!  I for one am looking forward to the autumn weather - cooler, crisper air, not so much humidity, etc. etc.  Not to mention all the football so many people enjoy!

I've been painting a lot and am working on some portraits.  My usual genre is the landscape but I decided to try something a little different, so here we go!  I've done some in the past, but am now getting interested in broadening my horizons.  So besides animal portraits here come some people portraits!  It is turning out to be quite fun.

Summer's Almost Gone!!!

My goodness, how time flies!  I can't believe it's been since February that I've posted on here, but lots has happened in the meantime.   Anyway, I'm sorry to be so delinquent!

Boots
I'm looking forward to taking part in Arts Around The Square (ARTS) in Paris on Sept. 29 and would love to see everyone's smiling faces there.  It's a day of fun with something for everyone from ages 2 to 102, so be sure to plan on being there.  I'm sending in my request for great weather so it will be a wonderful day!

Chrystal River, Colorado
oil, 28 x 22

I've been busy painting and have a few new things to show, plus I've updated my web site. so how about checking that out too -( annstappart.com. )  I hope you'll like the new look.

Boots is a painting of our cat, whom we lost, sadly, but he will always be remembered.  If you have that special pet, I will do pet portraits, so give me a call!  (731-644-7334)

Chrystal River is a natural river in a beautiful spot west of Aspen, Colorado, where we camped last summer for a couple weeks and thoroughly enjoyed the scenery and the weather!

White Ibis

This summer we spent July down in Melbourne Beach, FL where we got to see a different type of scenery and which happens to be the second largest sea turtle nesting area in the world!  It was so interesting to be able to see the huge turtles go through the process of digging their nests, depositing the eggs, covering the eggs again with sand, then retreating back to the sea, a process which takes several hours.  Most of them do it during the night, but the green turtles would do it about dawn, which gave us a chance to view the process.  I felt really privileged to be able to witness it and hope to create a painting from some of my photos.  The white ibis strolled the beach frequently, fishing the whole time, and I did manage to capture them on canvas!  And I'm happy to say it has sold!

All in all, it's been a good summer, I hope it's been good for everyone else as well. Please check out my web site and I promise so much time won't go by again before I update  my blog.  Thanks for hanging in there with me.

Beautiful Day!

It's a wonderful sunny day today.  I don't know about you but for me the sunshine is welcome!  It's a bit cold, but that's okay, it is winter after all.

I've posted another painting.  While in Santa Fe last winter with my younger daughter we were in the plaza and I spotted this child doing what most children would do if given the chance!  Couldn't resist snapping a photo, and doing a painting.   I hope you enjoy it.

As I mentioned in my last post, the Helping Hand auction is still in full swing.  Please listen in or go to the Enoch Bldg. at the fairgrounds and do some bidding.  Not only is it fun, you can come home with some pretty neat stuff!  And maybe even pick up your dinner.  Can't beat that.

Also - Happy Valentine's Day this Tuesday!  Love to everyone.

Hello Again

Well, a hectic week has passed and now I can get back in touch.  Did everyone enjoy the touch of winter we had the other day???  I for one like the fact that we have 4 seasons, but don't like slipping on ice!

Helping Hand is in full swing now and I hope you are listening in, visiting the Enoch Building at the fairgrounds for the live auction, or calling in your bids at 731-642-1695.  The auction goes on daily beginning at 12:30 on a.m. radio 710, WTPR.  There have been some really nice items up for bids so don't miss out!

I have a new painting as I promised.  This is a painting of an old barn on the Elkins' property near Hazel, KY, not far from Paris.  I was driving by one day this fall and spotted it and just knew it would make a painting.  The Elkins were nearby and graciously gave me permission to photograph it.  I painted it a few weeks ago and just wanted you to see what picturesque scenes are in our territory.  Don't know about you but I love the old barns that are still around here and there, and I like to get them recorded before they disappear.  It's a part of Americana that unfortunately is slowly going by the wayside.  It's on display at Merison's now, as well as the works of several of us local artists, so please go by and view them in person!  You won't be disappointed.

Happy New Year

Well, a bit late, but HAPPY NEW YEAR!

It's my hope that everyone had a really good Christmas and also that you made it through New Year's Eve just fine!  For all of you who participated in "Chillin' at the River", that was quite a good thing you did for a worthy cause, and I have to say you're a better person than I am!! I can't quite handle the cold like that, but it was a really good thing you did.

My class has started and we're going to have a good time painting together.  It's not too late to take part, so if you would like to be a part of the learning process, just give me a call at 644-7334 and we'll sign you up!

I have a couple new paintings to show you, and will post them just as soon as I get photos taken.  In the meantime, my works are on display at the new Merison's store.  Mike Key and Susan Jones will be glad to show you around!  If you haven't visited yet, you should check it out.  A nice place, and you can find what you need for your home, including art from several of us local artists.  It's located right across the street from Lowe's.

I just wanted to touch base and let you know there will be new postings soon, so keep in touch!

Merry Christmas

I just wanted to say to all of you that I hope you have a very Merry Christmas, and a healthy and happy 2012.   This is a hectic time of year for many of us and I hope you can find the time to relax and reflect on the blessings of the season.

I will be adding to my blog after the holidays and wanted to remind you that I'll be starting a new painting class at the Lee School Art Academy on Wednesday afternoons from 2:00 - 5:00, beginning Jan. 4.  If you have done any painting in the past and would like to pick it up again, or if you've been painting for years, I'd love to have you in my classes!  Please give me a call at 644-7334 if you'd like to join us.

In the meantime, I hope the Holidays are really good ones for everyone.
